Amalija

A couple of weeks ago we learned of the opportunity to host a young lady from Serbia in our home for a year so that she could attend George Fox University. Alan and I were immediately drawn to the idea, and it has become our hearts desire that we can find a way to get Amalija the support she needs financially make her dreams come true.

Let me share with you a few quotes from some of her emails- I think once you read them you'll understand why we are so eager to share our life and home with Amalija. We hope this will be a "two way ministry." I know she feels blessed to have the opportunity to study at Fox, and to have a family ready and willing for her arrival-but we feel that she will minister to us as well-and to anyone she meets here in the U.S.A.

If you'd like to be a part of this ministry, we are in the process of finding the best possible (hopefully tax deductible) way of getting donations to Amalija. Please leave a comment or email us directly with your prayers.

If you are interested in pledging financial support, let us know!

From Amalija:

Dear Family and Friends,

Few weeks ago I have been writing you that I received an invitation to apply for a program called University Scholars honors program and after I have sent in my essay I was waiting for their response.

I'm happy to inform you that I'm selected as one of the 18 students to participate in the Freshman Honors Seminar this fall at George Fox University!! My joy is complete, and my heart praises God for this result, for I'm watching miracles happening right now in my life.

Among the rest of the things it was written that all the elements of George Fox honors program are designed for students who are ready to go beyond the normal challenges of undergraduate academic life and accomplish things most college students don't.

Thank you very much for your prayer support and your love, I'm blessed to have family and friends like you are!

With much love,
Amalija

Dear Michelle,

You know what I have figured out from when you have contacted me for the first time?...when God is giving something he is always giving the best, and you are my best! I can't wait to meet you, knowing that I will be living with such a wonderful family, makes everything easier.

Hi Brynn,

I'll be more then happy to teach you some words in Serbian and Romanian, it's not very difficult, you'll see, and I will tell you all about Serbia and Romania and other places where I have been, I have so many stories and I'll be glad to share it with you. I'm also eager to learn more about place where you are living, and about your culture, and you can tell me all about it. I also enjoy very much in painting, I love to paint nature with all the beautiful things in it, and you and your sister can paint with me, I would love to have company for that. Painting is very interesting, and I feel very happy when I finish my picture and see the result of my work. I can also teach you Serbian and Romanian national dance, it is very interesting.

Dear Friends and Family,

The biggest and main task I have to accomplish in 3 mounts, is to find the rest of the support I need to be able to study there. The University have awarded me with the Presidential scholarship which are the only available funds that University is giving to international students. The rest of amount I need to pay from my resources which is big challenge for me, when taking in consideration the very poor economical situation in country that I'm coming from. I'm working really hard on this issue, and I'm willing to do even more, therefore I'm praying for God's direction and that he will bless my work with positive results.

The vision and hope for my future is humanitarian work in context of equipping the individuals to work against poverty, conflict and society problems in their own environment, helping them with different resources, therefore I believe that the possibility of studding at the George Fox University will be more then just an opportunity for me to study, but a time to help shape my future.

As you can assume this next three mounts are going to be the busiest months for me, with a lot of challenge, a lot of hard work and new experiences. I need you to pray with me for the things I have mentioned above. I'm aware that I will face moments of tiredness, stress, and probably moments when I will be thinking that it's to big task for me, and this is why your prayers are of such a great value and help for me. Join me in asking God to lead me according to his perfect will and to help me. One of my friend told me that "God is there, and he is not silent". This words encouraged me a lot and are reminders for me that God is answering our prayers.

God is good all the time

Hello Michelle (Alan, Brynn and Jolee)

I am so excited for you and your family! This is such a wonderful thing you guys are doing and I know that God will bless you richly in return. I will keep you all in my prayers. It's amazing isn't it, when we decide to step back from a desire to control things how God just drops something right into our laps? I myself am still working on this but you my friend, have seen the work of God first hand and I can wait to watch this all unfold and to meet Amalija when she arrives.

May God continue to guide you all every step of the way. I love ya sister!
