Sacred Parenting and Square Dancing

So much to blog about, so little time.  I've spent a lot of today not doing anything really productive.  After hearing on the radio how the US Embassy is being attacked in Belgrade, I came home to hear what Amalija thought of the conflict.  I then decided to spend some time on Wikipedia trying to get a grip on the history of Yugoslavia, in the attempt to understand the desire for Kosovo to declare independence from Serbia.  I failed.  It's way too involved. I pray that over time God would show that whole entire region how to live in harmony.  As an outsider, I can't see an easy solution, but I know God loves each and everyone of us, and for His vision and His perspective, I am grateful.

So, let me talk about somethings I do know.  Square dancing at the VFW on Tuesday nights with my adorable husband is tons of fun.  Listening to everyone oooh and ahhh over how well he did on his first night, was also fun (I have to admit, although sometimes frustrating, having a husband who is smart and a good dancer...is pretty cool.)  I think Alan liked it enough that we'll make it a regular weekly date.  A big "shout out" to our friends Tami and Michael for encouraging us to step out of our comfort zone and try something most people think is a little "redneck."  Hey, I'm from the country, and I like it that way!!

I've tried to be really quiet about my teaching/facilitating a book study on Sacred Parenting for WBF.  I want the women in the group to know, I'm not going to make our discussions into blogs...but I have to say a few things that have been on my mind.

1. It freaks me out that we started the class with 23 women and today only about 7-8 of them showed up.

2. People tell me, "not to worry," and "It's not you, they probably just have sick kids."

3. I'm only halfway believing those people.

4. I want to share about God's faithfulness and love for women who are moms.  I want all of these women to know that God is changing them and growing them (not just their kids) through the process of parenthood.

5. I want to be a teacher that people love to listen too- I'm still really too prideful.  And perhaps that's why God is letting the numbers decrease, so that HE can increase.

6. However God wants to change me and use me for His glory during this study- I'm ready and willing.

7. I am soooo excited that Dorcas Smucker will be with us to talk to the entire group on March 13th.  What a gift that will be to everyone in WBF.

I never cease to be amazed at the journey.  I love you Lord.

And I love YOU, Michelle!

And I love YOU, Michelle! :)

You have the most WONDERFUL way of presenting yourself in a way that people feel so easily connected to. I LOVE LOVE LOVE  the fact that I get to hear you speak from your heart those Thursday mornings, and I love the fact that you have taught me 'it DOES get better'. Lord, knows we all need to know that! :)

Don't worry about dwindling numbers...God is speaking to each and every one of us where we are. At the time, he seems to be speaking to me in my puky state while I'm sprawled on my couch ALL.DAY.EVERY.DAY. You can count on me making it back sometime soon, but I think for the time being I will spare everyone from my nastiness that is morning sickness.

Love you and LOVE our WBF. What a blessing it is for so many people!

Thank you!

Dear Abbie,

I keep praying the pukiness goes away soon, so I can see that smiling face of yours! Thank you for being a friend and comfort to me, in the midst of your own nausea. You are a blessing to me.

Dancing King?

a husband who is ... a good dancer

I really don't think that will be on my headstone.

I spoke honestly to folks that night when they asked if I'd done square dancing before. That I've got two semesters of ballroom dancing in college under my belt somehow didn't make it into the conversation. Surprised I don't know if that really helped or not because there's not a whole lot of similarities between a waltz and square dancing, or the foxtrot and square dancing.

I did have a good time, and feel bad now that I'll be gone next week.
