Remodel Day 1

The temperature topped over 100° today. Not a lot of fun, even in the morning, to be tethered on the roof removing hot, black shingles.
Just after lunch, though, with all the shingles gone, the removal of the roof sheeting and the 2x4 trusses went slowly and methodically. Removing sheeting out of order could result in the domino rotation and collapse of all the remaining trusses. This could even push wall out of place, and would certainly have completely demolished the family room ceiling at the back of the house as the 2x4 bottom cords of each truss could rotate as the truss fell, leaving the drywall with no possibility of remaining intact.
At the end of the day, we were looking at unobstructed sky where once the garage ceiling was.
And with the cooling system upstairs disconnected, the kids got to sleep downstairs camp-out style in the living room.
The first day of remodel (aka destruction of the existing roof) is now in the bag. The original goal of the first day was removal of the entire existing roof above the garage. Completing each day's goals is, of course, important to the next day's work. Just like airplane scheduling, one delay not made up for, will cascade for the next few weeks. With a nod and a big thanks to today's crew, I can happily report that today went without any major hitches and the roof is 99% removed. Only a small overframe section over the main part of the house remains.
It was a quiet but very warm morning. The sun was up and the hot wind was blowing from the north, making it unseasonably hot.The temperature topped over 100° today. Not a lot of fun, even in the morning, to be tethered on the roof removing hot, black shingles.

It was a good first day. Be sure and watch the timelapse video from today.
