Remodel Day 3

It looks like a house again!

Two days after the roof came down, the new walls came up. That's the big news for today.

It started out slowly, or at least it looked that way on video again. All that was visible was a lot of walking around on the deck. What was actually happening was the building of the walls on the floor first. Then, each section is lifted into place. This was the first wall to stand on its own in the new room.

After the front wall was up, the rear wall was jacked into place. It was the longest and a heavy wall, so the jacks made it much easier.

Then came the really long side wall, 32-1/2 feet long and a vaulted ceiling at that. The gable end truss is coming without a flat bottom chord, so the wall must be built to support it directly. Building it on the ground took quite a long time, and we also did it in two halves. There would be no way to safely stand a single wall this long with only 3 people.

When both sections were finally together, it really looked like a whole house again. On Thursday morning, the trusses should be delivered. Until then, the interior walls will be built and the bathroom will be prepped for rebuilding as well. A new 4x12 beam will be added to span over the center of the house above the bathroom to take the roof load from the roof still in place. The existing trusses will be hangered off the beam instead of sitting on top of the 2x6 top plate like they are now.

Yay for Day 3!
