Gift from Brynn

For those of you with younger kids, still trying to figure out temper tantrums and sleepless nights, hold on it will get better. For those of you with teenagers, deep in the mire of puberty and emotional outbursts, please keep quiet and give me this moment's peace. :)

On Easter Sunday we were given a gift. My 10 year old daughter Brynn wrote this essay as a present to us:

The Gift of Family

Do you have a certain place that you call home? Your home is not the building that you live in, but the people that build you. People who feed you, care for you and love you. People that make you feel part of the group. I know those kinds of people. Everyday, morning ‘till night, they fill me to the top with hugs, and kisses. Family is wonderful.

With my mom I do things like, read books at night, and talk about life. I know that my mom was once a girl too, so I feel that I am able to tell and ask her what I need to. I can trust my mom. She understands what I mean when I ask her questions about girls, and I love listening to her stories too. My mommy is a great shopper, and she always helps me spend my money wisely and buy good clothes. I am thankful for my caring mom.

I love my dad. He is a math kind of guy. I always feel free to ask him questions about my homework. Any paper about anything, he is the one to make that dark light bulb in your head go, “clink!” He is also great at science. He can help me with projects step-by-step, so I will get what he’s doing. He explains it in such a simple way, which is so easy to understand. I am thankful for my helpful dad.

Now for my sister, a cute six year-old, always full of joy! Though sometimes she can be a pain, my family would not be complete without her. How lonely could I possibly get in the heat of summer with no one to play with in the pool? I am so glad that God put me here to be her big sister, teaching her things, and she teaching me. I love listening to her bright ideas and about her days in kindergarten. I am thankful for a sweet sister.

I love family; it is an awesome gift from God. I believe this is how he wanted it, with both your parents living with you in the same house teaching you valuable lifetime skills, and with all your siblings growing up alongside you. This is the life. This is where you’re supposed to be, together, forever.

Aw, this is certainly a moment worth savoring. Thanks for sharing it with us. -- Kathy

Wow!!

This is awesome! You are doing an amazing job at raising your daughters! It is obivious by what Brynn has said that she is learning what love amongst a family is. She is right and I agree that I think this is the way that God intended it to be. Keep doing what you're doing and know that God will bless you all!! Thanks for sharing and giving me some hope for down the road too!! Love you guys!! Laughing

Thank you friends!

I'm not sure that Brynn's writing is really a reflection of our "great parenting" but more the saving grace of our Father.  It is through His work in our family that we have come to this place.  I know we will tread rough waters ahead...and each day brings new challenges.  Thank you however for the complement, and yes, I will try to keep doing what I'm doing, which is Running into the arms of God... I loved your post today on your blog.

Love, Michelle
